My rating:
Blurb:Torin Mardak came to Zarhab Groht to hunt. Some idiot's been selling Callidum weapons on the black market, and he's been tasked with finding the traitor.
The illegal trading station isn't exactly Torin's favorite place in the Nine Galaxies. It's dirty, chaotic, and full of thieves and murderers, but as an elite Kordolian First Division warrior, he's the most dangerous thing on this floating cesspit, and he won't let anything stand in his way.
But when he encounters a group of humans who really, really shouldn't be here, his priorities might just have to change, because one of them is about to get betrayed in the worst possible way...
And she just so happens to be exactly his type.
Taming Chaos is Book 1 in the Darkstar Mercenaries series. It features a lethal silver-skinned alien hero, a curvy human heroine, and the usual action, violence, steamy sex scenes, and HFN ("happy for now") ending.
Favorite Quotes:
A bolt of bright blue plasma seared her retinas. The Bartharrans raged forward. Torin became a dark blur, somehow evading the plasma fire, slipping into the chaos like a fine thread through the eye of a needle.
“Whatever you wish, Persephone.” He gestured toward the corridor with a small, ironic flourish. “Please, after me. I’ll be both your shield and your instrument of vengeance, if you desire.”
It was good until they started having sex. Then the subplot got lost in the physical stuff. It was a bit uneven in that aspect. But the action was fantastic! I loved the back to back obstacles they faced. Which enhanced their attraction to each other cause, ya know, intense situations and all that.
The sexual tension and build up was pretty good too but I expected it to be. I didn’t really think the climax was super great. It was only ok. I won’t be reading more in this series. I will def be checking more of Anna Carven’s stuff though.
